I work on projects focusing on infectious diseases (e.g. COVID-19) and chronic diseases (diabetes and cardiovascular disease). I use a holistic approach to develop, implement and evaluate eHealth technologies. This means I collaborate with potential end-users and relevant (business) stakeholders, to be sure that the technology matches with their needs and wishes, and their environment, but also meets legal criteria. My focus is not only on which design requirements are necessary for the patient to fulfill their needs, but also on what is necessary to implement or facilitate around the technology to achieve sustainable implementation and usage in daily practice (on technological, legal and financial level). Since September 2021, I started as a PhD candidate in the eHealth Junior consortium, and I hope to expand my knowledge and expertise in (sustainable) implementation of eHealth technologies.
Current project:
In my PhD research in the eHealth Junior project I am aiming to understand and overcome the technological, legal and financial barriers that threaten a successful implementation of eHealth applications, as for example legal issues, new EU regulations on medical devices (MDR), and privacy (GDPR). Based on the output, I will develop a comprehensive roadmap for eHealth developers, researchers, and business- and legal stakeholders, which describes essential steps in eHealth development and implementation for chronically ill children. Additionally, I will co-develop the eHealth Junior platform and create a business model for sustainable usage of the platform in (clinical) practice.
Previous projects:
- Willingness to take the Sars-CoV-2 vaccine: practical implications on population health messages
- Benefit for all (development and evaluation of an lifestyle platform for cardiac patients)
- Socio-economic impact of motivational interviewing on adherence to orthopedic shoes (diabetic patients)
- Usability testing of the CoronaMelder (Dutch contact tracing app for Covid-19)
- Development of an interactive platform for healthcare professionals in zoonosis
